Aswan/Luxor
ITINERARY - 4 DAYS
Day 1
Meet & assist at Aswan airport. Transfer to Dahabiya for embarkation.
After lunch on board, visit Aswan starting with Philae Temple, dedicated to the Goddess Isis. The island of Philae, famous for centuries for its rich heritage of temples, now lies submerged beneath the water of Lake Nasser to the south of Aswan. Thankfully, when the Aswan High Dam was built in the 1960s the island’s temples were dismantled and reconstructed on a higher island and now resembles the original Philae. Next is a visit to the High Dam, located near Aswan which was an engineering miracle when originally constructed. The dam contains 18 times more material than that used in the Great Pyramid of Cheops.
Overnight in Aswan.
Day 2
Free morning.
An early morning optional tour is available to visit Abu Simbel.
After lunch set sail to Kom Ombo to visit the Temple of Kom Ombo which is dedicated to the God Sobek (crocodile headed god) and the God Haroeris (falcon headed god ). This temple is unique in its location as it stands on a plateau dissected by two long dry streams which isolate the site and provides the most spectacular setting of any of Egypt’s river temples.
Sail to Edfu and overnight in Edfu.
Day 3
Sail early morning to Luxor.
After lunch visit the East Bank of Luxor, starting with the temple of Karnak, considered to be the largest temple complex ever built by man. This great complex was dedicated to the main god of the ancient Egyptians - Amun-Re .
Visit the Luxor Temple, the southernmost of the monuments of the Theban East Bank, located in the heart of ancient Thebes and like Karnak, was dedicated to Amun-Re.
Overnight in Luxor.
Day 4
After breakfast visit the West Bank of Luxor starting with the Valley of the Kings, which contains 62 tombs to date, excavated by Egyptologists and archaeologists from many countries. In 1922, Howard Carter found the last and the most well-known of these tombs, that belonging to the young pharaoh Tutankhamun. Visit the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut (Deir el-Bahri) designed in multiple levels, the temple itself consisted of three broad courts separated by colonnades, linked by ascending ramps and bounded by dressed limestone walls . Before leaving the West Bank we will stop at the Colossi of Memnon which are two gigantic sitting statues representing Amenopis III facing the Nile.
